Hotel developers in Boerne want to stop visitors to the Hill Country community from giving their business to San Antonio hotels by bringing an upscale hotel project to the suburb.
Phoenix Hospitality Group, a Boerne-based hotel developer and operator, is teaming with Ross Partlow, owner of Boernebased Partlow Properties and Investments, and partner Tim Lange on a 130-room full-service hotel that will feature outdoor event spaces, a 7,500-square-foot conference center and a resort-style pool.
The project is expected to cost $20 million, developers say.
The custom-designed hotel, to be a Hilton Hotels & Resorts affiliate, will be on a 20.4-acre lot between Interstate 10 and Main Street in Boerne, across from a Walmart department store and southeast of downtown Boerne.
Developers have been trying to bring a full-service hotel — with amenities such as room service, pools, fitness rooms and business meeting space — to Boerne since at least 2009, said Ed McClure, founder and CEO of Phoenix Hospitality Group. A deal to bring a DoubleTree hotel fell through in 2011 because of economic conditions, McClure said.
In the meantime, visitors to Boerne have taken their business to hotels near The Rim Shopping center and The Shops at La Cantera in San Antonio because the enclave doesn’t have hotel options with full-service amenities, McClure said.
“I think there’s a great number of people that will come and stay here weekdays and weekends for business or leisure activities that currently prefer to be The Eilan (Hotel & Spa) or La Cantera (Resort & Spa),” McClure said.
The combination restaurant, bar and market will emphasize regional Hill Country delicacies such as smoked foods, German schnitzel, and locally made craft beer and wine, McClure said.
Construction is expected to begin this summer and cost more than $20 million. Cooper Carry, an Atlanta-based architecture firm, is slated to design the “artisanal” hotel.
Developers expect the hotel to be open for business by summer 2018 and will employ about 80 people, McClure said.
The hotel will only take up about 4 acres, Partlow said, leaving the remaining land open for medical office and restaurant projects that are currently in the works. jfechter@express-news.net Twitter: @JFreports
